Man Stiffs Cabbie, Then Kicks Her In The Face

Tussle erupts when female taxi operator tries to stop passenger from leaving without paying.

A 43-year-old female cab driver picked up Brendan Farley in the 6700 block of Olmsted in Chicago's Edison Park neighborhood at 2:40 a.m. May 8, according to Niles police, and they later arrested him for trying to dodge paying his fare.

At his request, the cabbie started to drive him to the intersection of Caldwell and Touhy avenues in Niles. While en route, the 22-year-old asked her to stop at a restaurant in the 6700 block of Touhy in Niles to buy him a meal.

When the cabbie, who lives in Des Plaines, refused to pay for the food, he swore at her and told her to keep driving. She continued to the intersection, then he directed her to the 6800 block of Lexington Lane in Niles. He refused to pay the $10.50 cab fare, and tried to climb out the window.

The driver closed it remotely to prevent Farley from exiting, and he climbed into the front seat to try to leave. As she tugged on his clothes to keep him from getting out, Farley kicked her in the face with his left foot and then exited.

She called police, who were familiar with the offender and knew he lived behind a residence on that street. They went to his home and asked him to come outside, where the taxi driver identified him as the offender.
