Man Stopped For DUI, Utters Curious Remark, Kneels On Pavement

He told police, "I've got another week, the 8th I'm dead."

After being involved in a three-car accident with injuries on Milwaukee Avenue, just south of Harlem Avenue, on Sautrday at 5:52 p.m., Thomas Petro, 43, of Park Ridge was charged with DUI and DUI with blood alcohol level over .08.

Immediately after the crash, police responders asked Petro if he needed medical assistance and he shook his head no. When asked for his driver's license, he had a difficult time retrieving it from his wallet, fumbling and dropping it. Police noticed he slurred his speech and had a strong odor of alcohol. When asked if he had had anything to drink, he responded with an unintelligible noise and a nod. As the officer started field sobriety tests in a nearby parking lot, Petro said, "I've got another week, the 8th I'm dead." He then knelt down on the pavement, put his hands on top of his head and said, "You want me, here I am." His court date is Nov. 1 in the Skokie branch of the Cook County courts.
