Man Strikes Residents In Nursing Facility

The offender suffers from depression and psychosis and he and the victim did not get along. Arrest information is supplied by the Niles Police Department. An arrest does not indicate a conviction.

Two men living at an adult nursing facilitly in the 9600 block of Greenwood, Niles, had a history of not getting along, according to a police report, and came to blows Sunday at around 5:30 p.m.

The first victim, a 32 year old man, rounded a corner of a hallway and saw the offender, a 53-year-old man, yelling at him, according to the report. The victim went into a stairway to avoid the offender, but came back to argue with him, police said.

The offender swung a metal object at him, cutting him in the lip, police said. He then asked a woman nearby, "Did you see that?" and the offender became agitated, wheeled toward the woman, made threats and rolled over her feet, according to the report. The woman victim was sent to the hospital. The male victim refused medical assistance.

Nurses later told police that the offender, who suffers from depression and psychosis, and the first victim, who suffers from bipolar disorder, had been yelling at each other before the incident, police said. Staff sent the offender to a hospital for an evaluation, and the first victim said he didn't wish to sign complaints since the offender was leaving, according to the report.

A 28-year-old husband reported Saturday at about 12:20 p.m. that he and his 30-year-old wife had gotten into an argument about alleged infidelity, police said. The husband said they had been in counseling but did not reach a resolution, according to police. The husband left the residence without incident.
