Man Threatens Woman With Knife, Choking, Kicks

He backed her against the wall and threatened to stab her.

Daniel Chernesky, 35, of Niles was charged with domestic battery Saturday about 11 p.m. after police responded to a domestic incident to find Chernesky and a 34-year-old woman in an apartment. Officers said Chernesky was intoxicated, and he told them the woman was crazy.

The woman told police Chernesky had been drinking, and that she tried to leave, but he became physically aggressive, brandishing a knife, threatening to stab her, backing her against a wall, choking her, pulling her hair, punching her in the back and kicking her in the lower back.

She managed to get away and call for help. Police didn't find signs of injury on her. A man in his 20s was also present and witnessed the episode.

His court date is Oct. 7 in the Skokie branch of the Cook County courts.

A 39-year-old Chicago woman reported Sunday at about 6 p.m. that she had left her cell phone in a shopping cart while at a store in the 6100 block of Touhy, Niles. She used her daughter's phone to call her phone but couldn't hear it ringing. She used an application called "Find Your Phone," which showed her phone moving for awhile, but then it stopped near the entrance to a forest preserve on Caldwell Avenue. Police filed the report as a matter of record.
