Man Upset With Kids Playing, Stabs Their Ball

He was upset the kids were playing with the ball near newly-planted trees. An arrest is merely an accusation, not evidence of a conviction.

 

Police responded May 11 just after 8:15 p.m. to an incident in which a Niles woman, 33, reported that a 61-year-old man, the manager of an apartment building in the 8800 block of Cumberland, Niles, was upset with the fact that children were playing with a ball in the yard.

The offender, whom police said was upset because the ball disturbed newly-planted trees, stabbed the ball with a pocket knife, which caused it to deflate.

The victim did not want to sign complaints, and police admonished the offender that any similar actions in the future would be cause for arrest.

Mother, daughter clash over newborn baby

A 38-year-old Niles woman from the  8000 block of Ottawa reported May 15 just after 11:30 p.m. that she and her 15-year-old daughter had been involved in a verbal dispute over the 15-year-old leaving a friend's house, and other matters.

The mother has a newborn, and the 15-year-old said the baby was taking attention away from her. Both mother and daughter agreed to stay separated and wanted to pursue counseling. Police issued an Illinois domestic violence form and made a referral to Niles Family Services.
