Mirror Kicked Off New Car On Lot

The offender said he did it after he asked for a cigarette and was turned down. Arrest information is supplied by the Niles Police Department. An arrest does not indicate a conviction.

Angkham Souvongkham of North Bosworth Street, Chicago, was charged with knowingly damaging property and retail theft, a Class 4 felony, after a series of incidents Jan. 11. While he was at a retail store in Golf Mill Shopping Center, a security agent told police he observed Souvongkham putting his shoes in a shoe box and wearing a new pair of shoes, valued at $35, out of the store without paying for them, police said.

While police were interviewing Souvongkham, they discovered a side view mirror of a vehicle in his possession, and he told them he had asked a person in the parking lot for a cigarette, and when that person said no, he kicked the mirror off the new, for-sale vehicle, which belonged to an auto dealership and was parked with other new vehicles.

The dealership estimated the value of the mirror at $300. Souvongkham's court date is Jan. 26 in the Skokie branch of the Cook County courts.
