Missing Headlight Leads To Drug Charge

Arrest information is supplied by the Niles Police Department. An arrest does not indicate a conviction.

Steven Villareal, 21, of Glen Ellyn was charged with possession of a controlled substance, a Class 4 felony, possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of cannabis after police stopped him Jan. 5, at about 2:30 a.m., because, according to police, his Nissan only had one working headlight. At the time, Villareal had been driving southeast-bound on Milwaukee Avenue.

When police checked Villareal's driver's license in a database, they said they discovered an arrest warrant for him from DuPage County for a failure to pay fines and failure to appear for a recent "driving while license suspended" arrest.

Niles police searched the vehicle and, according to the report, discovered a glass pipe containing suspect cannabis, which Villareal identified as his. Upon further searching, police said they discovered a medicine bottle containing additional suspect cannabis and two plastic bags containing suspect psilocybin, also called "shrooms." According to police, Villareal also indicated these belonged to him.
