MoGro blotter: $33,000 Gold And Silver Scam

A man is charged with writing a check on a closed account. An arrest is merely an accusation, not evidence of a conviction.

 

Anthony Ortiz, 34, of Mount Prospect was charged with deceptive practice after police said he issued four checks totaling $33,000 to the victim to purchase gold and silver coins. The checking account he drew on was a closed account, according to police. The subject also has an active warrant, police said. Court date is scheduled for 6/18/12.

Anahita Karimi, 18, was stopped June 2 for an equipment violation and charged with DUI-zero tolerance and possession of drug paraphernalia, police said. Court date is scheduled for 7/13/12

Justin Ovalle, 53, of Chicago was charged with retail theft after police said he placed two GHZ Spliters into his pocket at a store at 6301 Oakton, and walked past the last point sales without paying for the items. Court date is scheduled for 7/13/12. 

Marco Ortiz, 25, of Chicago was charged with DUI and driving without a license June 5 after police said they stopped him for traffic violations. Court date is scheduled for 7/6/12

On May 27, unknown offender(s) damaged the victim’s garage door at 8615 Callie.

Police issued Nikolay Elgayev, 51, a citation for retail theft after they said he took a pack of razor blades on June 1 at 6301 Oakton without paying for it. He was released. 

In a telephone harassment case, a victim in the 5900 block of Madison was receiving phone calls from an unknown offender who has called four times. The offender does not speak and then hangs up.  

In a deceptive practice case, unknown offender(s) took the victim’s wallet that she left at a restaurant in the 9200 block of Waukegan Road on June 1. Offender(s) then used the victim’s credit card. 

Ernesto Rodriguez was charged with criminal damage to property after police said he punched a glass window of a business in the 6000 block of Dempster. The business owner did not want the offender arrested. Offender agreed to pay for the damage.  

Unknown offender(s) removed three spare tires from two trailers parked in the lot of a business in the 6100 block of Monroe Court. 

Marlene Canicosa, 63, of Glenview, was issued a Morton Grove citation for retail theft in the 7200 block of Dempster June 4 after police said she took a bottle of perfume without paying for it.
