Morton Grove Hires Two New Cops

Sean Lang and Thomasz Skrzyniarz will replace two officers who retired.

Two new Morton Grove police officers were sworn in Monday at the village board meeting by Fire and Police Commission Chairperson Mike Simkins.

The new officers, Sean Lang and Thomasz Skrzyniarz, will begin a 13-week course of training at the Suburban Law Enforcement Academy (SLEA) at the College of DuPage, said Morton Grove Police Chief Mark Erickson.

They'll then start 12 weeks of on-the-job training with a field training officer.

"By the time they are on their own, it'll be fall," said Erickson, who added that the village is not hiring additional officers, simply replacing officers who retired.

Lang and Skryniarz have been hired, but have yet to be certified, he said.

The process of hiring a police officer involves written tests, agility tests, psychological and medical tests and background checks, he said, in addition to interviews with the fire and police commission.
