Police tried to speak to the mother by calling her cell phone, knocking on the door and windows of the house, and attempting to speak with her via the squad car Public Address system, but she did not respond.

When police were interviewing the daughter, the mother opened the front door and placed the daughter's purse on the front stoop. The police officer tried to make contact with the mother, but she refused to speak or allow the officer to come into the house.
