Neighbor Charged In Muslim Center Attack

Morton Grove police charged David Conrad after they said he allegedly shot an air pellet rifle at the Muslim Education Center Friday.

The Cook County State’s Attorney’s office and officers from the Morton Grove Police Department have investigated the discharge from an air (pellet) rifle at the Muslim Education Center, 8601 Menard, Morton Grove, IL.  The Morton Grove Police Department was contacted and began an investigation into the incident on Friday at 8:54 pm.

Once on scene, officers were advised of other criminal damage to property incidents that had occurred at this location previously, but went unreported.  Cognizant of the sensitive nature of these incidents, the Morton Grove Police Department contacted the Cook County State’s Attorney’s office to further the investigative process. No injuries were reported from any of these incidents.

The investigation directed investigators towards a Morton Grove resident who lives just east of the Muslim Education Center property.  Further investigation led to the confiscation of a high-velocity air rifle outfitted with a scope, and resulted in the following individual being charged:

Subject:            David Conrad, 51, of Morton Grove

Charges:            Three counts of Aggravated Discharge of a Firearm; Class X Felonies

                        One count of Criminal Damage to Property; Class 4 Felony

Bond hearing:  August 13, 2012

Court date:            August 22, 2012 1:30 pm
