New Scam Targets Hotel Customers, Police Say

The scammer posed as a hotel clerk and called a customer staying at the hotel to offer a discount in exchange for credit card information.

 

Skokie police are warning people about a new scam that targets hotel customers and claims to need customers’ debit or credit card information to verify their accounts at the hotel, CBS Chicago reported. 

Skokie Police Officer Joe Marzigliano told CBS Chicago the scammer informed the victim she would receive a 10 percent discount at checkout if she provided the information. Police aren’t sure if the scammer called the rooms randomly but says anyone staying in a hotel could be a victim, CBS Chicago reported.
