OMG PD: Odd Crimes in Our Patch Region

This week: pets rescued, pet owner cited and plenty of petty crimes

Local police departments provided the following reports. In all incidents where an arrest occurred, a charge is merely an accusation and not evidence of guilt.

A River Forest woman was cited for dumping dog feces into a sewer and walking her dog without a leash.

A clean getaway

Someone put soap in the fountain at in Northbrook, causing a large amount of bubbles to appear.

Two cats, one snake, an eel and several exotic fish were inside a Northfield home when a fire began in the basement. The four human occupants escaped unharmed, and rescue workers saved the animals, including two cats that received oxygen.

Space reserved for the handicapped and petty thieves

A Skokie police officer observed a 40-year-old Northbrook woman park her vehicle in a handicap spot outside of a Dominick's and walk without any apparent difficulty into the supermarket. The officer learned that the handicapped placard was registered to an 89-year-old woman who had reported it missing. The driver said the older woman was her aunt.

A 1970 Mustang convertible parked in Skokie was reported stolen. According to the report, police found glass fragments near the scene of the crime.

An Evanston woman was charged with retail theft for allegedly taking 18 packs of Gushers fruit snacks and two juices from a Skokie Jewel.

Morton Grove police arrested a Skokie man after he ripped up and threw a citation at a police commander.
