OMG PD: Odd Crimes in Our Patch Region

This week: Bad decisions at a high school reunion, stolen cardboard and a 26 cent theft

Local police departments and prosecutors provided the following reports. In all incidents where an arrest occurred, a charge is merely an accusation and not evidence of guilt.

A 42-year-old Chicago woman who was attending Deerfield High School’s 30th reunion at the in Deerfield apparently passed out on a couch in the hotel’s lobby from 2-4 a.m. She woke up to discover that she’d been robbed of several items, including an iPhone 4, $100 and a debit card.

A Chicago woman was charged with deceptive practices after she attempted to use stolen debit gift card to buy $600 worth of flowers, gift cards and magazines from a River Forest , police said.

Seven bales of cardboard, weighing 200 pounds each, were stolen from Treasure Island Food in Wilmette.

Skokie police checked on a woman who appeared to be disoriented, was holding a milk carton in her right hand and talking to herself. When the woman began walking away, an officer placed his hand on her shoulder. She responded by punching the officer in the chest.

After allegedly stealing a person’s iPhone at a Blue Line El stop, two Chicago men used a CTA bus to flee the scene and get some food in Niles, the Cook County State’s Attorney’s office said in a release.

The bus driver heard them talking and after dropping them off at a fast food restaurant in Niles, called police. Chicago police arrived at the restaurant and apprehended one man while he was in line to order food. They found the other in the restroom, where the victim’s iPhone was in the garbage can.

A Northfield resident told police that he had heard a "thumping" sound coming from outside his home around midnight. He later discovered the driver's side mirror of his neighbor's vehicle lying in the street.

A teenager banged on the door of an Evanston house with a broom at 3:25 a.m. on Aug. 20. The 18-year-old was arrested and charged with underage consumption.

The perils of home invasion during a rainy summer

A Chicago man was arrested and charged with burglary in Winnetka. The main evidence: police said his shoes matched muddy footprints found at the site of a home that was broken into.

A screw valued at 26 cents was stolen from a retail store at 6300 Oakton St.
