OMG PD: Odd Crimes in Our Patch Region

Local police departments provided the following reports. In all incidents where an arrest occurred, a charge is merely an accusation and not evidence of guilt.

A Chicago woman was charged with retail theft after allegedly attempting to take $173.45 worth of personal hygiene products from a River Forest .

Police responded to a Des Plaines woman who said she was startled at 7 a.m. when she heard what sounded like a crowing rooster in a neighbor’s yard. Police reported that the neighboring property had a coop in the backyard with a rooster and several chickens, which is prohibited in Des Plaines.

A slew of cars parked at in Deerfield were burglarized while a soccer tournament was taking place nearby.

When Des Plaines police stopped a Mount Prospect man for having an expired license plate registration, they said they discovered a ceramic smoking pipe in his front pocket.

When police asked him if the pipe was used for smoking cannabis, he said, “Yes, but I forgot it was there. I haven’t smoked weed today.”

Police responded to a retail theft at Victoria’s Secret in Old Orchard Mall where a woman allegedly made off with more than $600 of lace panties.

According to a police report, a vehicle parked at the Skokie Public Library had a driver side window shattered and a cloth bag, containing several Christian books, stolen.

Skokie police responded to a theft at the Evanston Golf Club. According to the report, a man had his unlocked locker burglarized, and a cell phone, wallet and $7,000 in cash were taken. The victim told police he didn’t feel the need to secure his locker because everyone at the club is a member.

A Northbrook garage was burglarized and a radar detector, worth $500, was stolen from the dashboard of an unlocked vehicle.
