This week: Poor choices for jack-o'-lanterns and getting a ride, plus purloined platypus plates

Local police departments provided the following reports. In all incidents where an arrest occurred, a charge is merely an accusation and not evidence of guilt.

A Glencoe police officer found a propane tank cut open, decorated like a jack-o'-lantern with a candle inside, set in front of a home. Upon further inspection, the officer saw that the tank had been rinsed clean and deemed it safe enough to stick around for Halloween.

A 20-year-old Morton Grove man was charged with reckless conduct in Orland Park for giving his friend a ride in the car’s airless trunk. Police said they stopped the car a few blocks from where they saw it set off and found a sweaty 17-year-old in the trunk.

According to the report, the car had five other passengers. The driver said he didn’t have room for his friend and gave him a ride in the trunk because they were only traveling a few blocks.

Losing my religion

A man and woman reportedly took 30 pairs of jeans worth $6,982 from a table at the front of the True Religion store at Northbrook Court and left without paying.

UPS boxes containing wedding gifts were stolen from a Wilmette home. They contained many items, including two serving plates etched with an image of a platypus.

A snow-blower, golf clubs and a lawn mower were stolen from the locked garage of a home in Oak Park.
