Police say the suspects pepper sprayed the clerk while holding her at gun point and demanded money. The suspects obtained an undisclosed amount of cash and sped away in a a silver Chevy Sedan, headed south on Route 83.

A marked Antioch squad car that was in the area followed the vehicle with its emergency lights activated. The suspects' vehicle speed got up to 100 miles per hour at which time Antioch terminated the pursuit and contacted Lake Villa Police of the suspect's status.

The suspect's vehicle lost control on Route 83 and Eagles Nest Road in Antioch, crossed the northbound lane of Route 83, crashed into a ditch and flipped over.

One suspect was pronounced dead at the scene, two others were airlifted to Advocate Condell Medical Center and are listed in critical condition. The names of the suspects are being withheld pending the notification of family members.

Evidence was located at the scene linking the suspects to the robbery and another identical robbery that occurred July 10 at the BP Amaco Gas Station at 602 W. Route 173 in Antioch.

Antioch police also believe this was the same robbery crew that is tied to numerous other armed robberies in Northern Illinois and Southern Wisconsin.

"The Antioch Police Department has been on high alert since last weeks robbery. We have maintained additional patrols with both marked and unmarked squads during evening hours," said Antioch Police Chief Craig Somerville

"I commend the officers for their professionalism and diligence in this matter. The investigation continues," said Somerville.
