Parking Scofflaw Punches Do-Gooder

A 44-year-old Chicago man told Niles police Weds. Jan. 18, just before 2 p.m., that he had observed a man about 60 years of age in his vehicle occupying a handicapped parking space in a parking lot in the 5900 block of Touhy. The man's vehicle did not display a handicapped placard or license plate, according to the report. Police said the Chicago man approached the parked man and asked him to move his car so a handicapped driver could use it. According to police, the parked man punched the Chicago man, causing a laceration to the left side of his face. The victim refused medical treatment. The offender was driving a black two-door Honda Accord.

32-Inch TV Taken From Store

Niles police said that on Jan. 19 a little before 1 p.m., a security agent for a store in Golf Mill Shopping Center observed a man taking a 32-inch Toshiba television from the electronics department and transporting it to the bed and bath department, where he used a cutting device to remove the security alarm from the television. Then the offender left the store, without paying, using the Milwaukee Avenue door, according to police, and the security agent lost him. The TV was valued at about $300. The store provided surveillance video to police.
