Party Request Leads To Domestic Dispute

When parents told their teen she couldn't go to a party, her anger set a dispute in motion. An arrest is merely an accusation, not evidence of a conviction.

Steven Malok, 60, of Niles was charged with domestic battery Dec. 31. According to police, an 18-year-old girl, who is deaf and uses sign language to communicate, asked her parents Dec. 29 to go to a party in Lansing IL, and the parents said no, with the understanding there would be drug and alcohol use at the party. Police said the teen became upset at not being allowed to attend the party, and grabbed her mother's cell phone out of her hand and threw it to the ground, smashing the screen. Malok hit her on he head, on the arm and on both knees, according to the report, causing bruising. The teen did not want to sign complaints and became upset when police said they would have to arrest Malok.The court date was Jan. 11.

Woman charged with theft of $333 of clothing, shoes

Brittany Peguez, 21, of North Latrobe Street, Chicago, was charged with retail theft Jan. 10 at a Golf Mill Shopping Center store. Security agents said she concealed eight athletic shirts, two pairs of pants and one pair of shoes in her purse, worth a total of $333, in her purse and exited without paying for the merchandise. Her court date is Feb. 19 in the Skokie branch of the Cook County courts.
