Police Blotter: Retail Thefts Thwarted at Menards

Morton Grove police registered three theft-related incidents and one outstanding warrant arrest.

"Readers are reminded that an arrest by the police does not constitute a finding of guilt, and that the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty," according to a statement from police Cmdr. Michael Fujara. All information comes directly from police reports.

Theft Arrests

Robert Bialic, 38, of Des Plaines, was charged with retail theft after store security watched him take drill bits without paying for them at Menards, 6301 Oakton Ave., on May 13.

Denice Kwak, 53, of Riverwoods, was charged with retail theft after store security watched her take nail spikes without paying for them at Menards, 6301 Oakton Ave., on May 16.

David Otto, 54, of Chicago was charged with criminal damage to property and attempted theft after he allegedly ripped plants out of the ground on private property and put them in the back of his car on May 14. The incident occurred at 6301 Oakton Ave., where Menards is located.

Outstanding Warrant Arrest

Jenny Sarmiento, 30, of Elgin, came into the police station May 16 to have her car released. When police ran her name through their computer system, they discovered an outstanding warrant for her. Sarmiento was subsequently arrested.
