Police Blotter: Shoppers Find Wallets Pinched

The police department has provided the following reports.Charges do not indicate a conviction.

"Readers are reminded that an arrest by the police does not constitute a finding of guilt, and that the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty," according to a statement from police Cmdr. Michael Fujara. All information comes directly from police reports.

Gasoline station bilked

A male driver fled and did not pay for gasoline May 8 after he filled up his car's at a service station at 5601 Dempster St.

Home break-in

In a residential burglary at 5518 Madison St., a 46-inch television and jewelry were stolen on May 27.

Wallet stolen at store

A wallet containing $60, credit cards and a personal check were stolen May 27 from a customer's purse at the Menards store at 6301 Oakton St.

Tax refund illegally cashed 

A federal tax refund was reported illegal cashed May 27 at 9199 Major Ave., according to the police report.

Shopper's purse snatched

A purse was stolen from a customer's shopping cart at 6931 Dempster St. while she moved groceries into her car on May 27. Inside the purse was $52, her driver's license and credit cards, according to the police report. On May 28, the purse was returned through the U.S. Postal Service, but the $52 was missing.

Property damaged

After a stranger was seen in a neighbor's backyard on May 28 at 9336 Nashville Ave., a resident checked his property and found a broken garage window and damaged fence.
