Police Charge Man In April Home Invasion

Invaders tried to tie up the home's occupant.

Niles police, working with other law enforcement agencies, have identified and charged Ricardo Chaidez,19, in an in which the offenders tried to tie up the resident of the home. 

Chaidez is charged with one count of home invasion, a Class X felony, and one count of aggravated false impersonation of an officer, a Class 1 felony. 

Chaidez can face 6 to 30 years in prison for the first charge, and four to 15 years for the second.

The original incident occurred on April 20 in the 8800 block of Chester Street, Niles.  The 37-year-old victim reported that multiple offenders forced their way into his residence and attempted to restrain him. He fought back, and was able to chase the invaders from his home. 

Investigators, with the assistance of the Illinois State Police Forensics division, identified a suspect. The victim identified the offender in a photo array.

Niles police investigators, working with the Chicago Police Department, located Chaidez in the 3200 block of west 24th street, Chicago, and brought him to the Niles Police Department. Chaidez' last known address is in the 2300 block of South Sawyer Street, Chicago.

Cook County Assistant State’s Attorney Michael O’Malley reviewed the case and approved felony charges.
