Police Charge Suspect in Coleman Shooting

Evanston Police have arrested and charged a suspect in the fatal shooting of 14-year-old Evanston Township High School student Dajae Coleman. They will announce the name and charges this afternoon.

Evanston Police announced Friday morning that they have arrested and charged a suspect in the fatal shooting of Dajae Coleman, 14, last Saturday.

Police said they will announce the name of the suspect and the charges during a press conference at 1 p.m. Friday. 

The Evanston Township High School freshman was shot four times at 10:30 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 22, in the 1500 block of Church Street, as he was walking home with friends, according to police. Officers have not released any other details of the crime.

“He was just a good kid," his basketball coach, Nibra White, told Patch.

Services are set for this Saturday, Sept. 29, at First Church of God Christian Life Center, 1524 Simpson Street in Evanston.

There will be a wake from 10 to 11 a.m., followed by the funeral service at 11 a.m.
