Police: Girl, 16, Crashes Car Into Barrier Wall

A 16-year-old Skokie girl was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries after she crashed her car at Green Bay Road and McCormick Boulevard, according to police. No other cars were involved.

Evanston Police say a 16-year-old girl from Skokie was taken to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries after her car crashed into a barrier wall at Green Bay Road and McCormick Boulevard this morning. No one else was riding in her car, and there were no other vehicles were involved in the crash, according to a press release from the police department.

The crash took place around 11:15 a.m., police say.

"There are indicators in the investigation that the driver was despondent at the time of the crash," Police Cmdr. Jay Parrott said in the release. Asked whether the crash might have been a suicide attempt, Parrott said that explanation "is being investigated as a clear possibility."

Police shut down the intersection after the accident, and crews will continue to investigate for several hours. Drivers are advised to take alternate routes, police said.
