Police Issue Alert About Attempted Sexual Assault

A man attacked a 23-year-old woman and tried to undress her in the 1300 block of Maple Avenue just after midnight Saturday, Dec. 8.

Evanston police issued an alert warning the community about a sexual assault that took place on Saturday, Dec. 8.

During that incident, a man approached a 23-year-old Evanston woman just after midnight in the 1300 block of Maple Avenue, and knocked her to the ground, according to the alert.

As he attacked her, the man tried to undress the woman. When she tried to defend herself, he continued to batter her, police said.

The woman was able to fight him off and was treated for facial injuries at a local hospital, according to police.

Police described the suspect as a man of unknown race with fair skin who stands 5'7" to 5'8" and has a slim build. He was wearing blue jeans, a dark coat and possibly a knit cap, police said. Just before the attack, he was seen walking eastbound on Dempster Street toward Maple Avenue.

There have been no similar incidents reported recently, according to police.
