Police: Man Sleeps Off Bender in Lawn Chair in Parking Lot

Niles police said the man was trying to stay at his girlfriend's home, but she wasn't there to let him in.

A Des Plaines man’s night went from bad to worse when he decided to “sleep off” a bender in a Niles parking lot, police said.

Niles police responded to a report of an intoxicated person at 6600 Wood River at about 8 a.m. July 17.

A witness told police that she saw Lee sleeping in a lawn chair in the parking lot in front of her deck. When she told him to leave, he started walking away and then got in an argument with a man. Lee was arguing with that man when police arrived, according to the report.

When interviewed, the man said Lee was getting ready to urinate on his house and he confronted Lee, according to the police report.

Lee told police he had consumed about 13 beers the night before and wanted to “sleep it off” at his girlfriend’s home nearby, according to the report.  But when he got there, she wasn’t home and he was too drunk to get home. So he “took a nap in the parking lot.”

He was cited under local ordinances for public intoxication and for the cost of the emergency services.
