Police Respond To Burglar Alarm, Find 17 Ounces of Pot, They Say

Also, a Sony tablet was stolen out of a grocery cart. An arrest is merely an accusation, not evidence of a conviction.

Donald Ledbetter, 54, of the 8000 block of Osceola was charged with Class 4 felony possession of cannabis Sept. 28 at about 11:20 p.m. Officers responded to the home for a burglar alarm going off--both front door and living room motion activations. Officers observed the front door had signs of force, according to the report.

Two officers and a K-9 officer searched the house for offenders, and found a cannabis or narcotic odor in the northeast bedroom, the report indicated. They discovered four gallon-sized clear plastic resealable bags of green leafy substance, which they said was suspect cannabis. It weighed 496 grams, which is just over one pound plus one ounce.

Police asked Ledbetter about the suspect cannabis and he admitted he has a few ounces for personal use, according to the report. His court date was Oct. 9 in the Skokie branch of the Cook County courts.

Sony Tablet Stolen From Grocery Cart

A Chicago woman reported on Sept. 28 that she had been shopping at a grocery store in Civic Center Plaza and her son placed a Sony tablet computer in their shopping cart. She continued shopping, and about 15 minutes later realized it was missing. Store management was unable to locate the incident on videotape. Police entered it into a theft database and the woman said that she had called Sony, which told her that after a police report was filed, they could attempt to track the tablet.
