Police: Woman on Prescription Drugs Arrested for DUI

Also, retail theft and other driving offenses. The information is from the Niles Police Department. An arrest does not indicate guilt.

DUI

On July 12 at about 1:15 a.m. a Niles police officer observed a Honda Accord in the 8800 block of Milwaukee veer from the right curb lane onto the left lane numerous times, according to police. The Officer stopped the car, which was driven by Thomas A. Koconis, 41, of Morton Grove. Police said the officer smelled alcohol and that Koconis had bloodshot eyes. Koconis told police he had two drinks at a bar and later showed signs of impairment on a field sobriety test, according to the report. Koconis was arrested for DUI and cited for improper lane usage.

On July 12 at about 11:15 p.m. police responded to a report of a retail theft that had just occurred in the 5600 block of Touhy. Niles dispatch reported that the offender had fled southbound through the parking lot. Niles officers and a Skokie officer located Howard Burton, 18, of Chicago, in the alley behind the store. The store’s loss prevention agent identified him as the person he saw steal clothing by hiding it in his waistband, according to the report. Burton was arrested for retail theft.

On July 13 just past midnight a Niles pfficer on patrol in the 7900 block of Milwaukee saw Johniee Holly, 54, of Chicago, driving with no head lamps on, according to police. The officer pulled him over and learned that Holly’s license was suspended as of 1 July, 2013. He was arrested for driving with a suspended license and cited for failure to use headlights.

Retail theft

On July 13 at about 8:30 p.m., the loss prevention agent at a store in the 5600 block of Touhy saw Seth N. Ardelean, 19, of Skokie, take bottles of alcohol and then hide them inside of his pants, according to police. When he left the store, the agent confronted him and Ardelean ran away. The agent followed him and caught him in a parking lot at 5750 W. Jarvis, police said. Officers arrived and arrested him for retail theft.

DUI drugs

On July 14 at about noon, officers responded to a traffic crash in the 5700 block of Touhy. An officer met Sandra L. Salvatore, 51, of Harwood Heights, who was the driver of one of the vehicles involved. The officer observed that her speech was slurred and she seemed disoriented, according to the report. She exited her vehicle in order to speak with the officer and she was unsteady on her feet, but stated that she had not been drinking alcohol, but had taken an unknown amount of Cymbalta and other prescription medications, according to the report. She then showed signs of impairment during a field sobriety test, police said. She was arrested for DUI-drugs.
