Pregnant Woman Threatened By Ex

She feels in danger and fears for her safety. Arrest information is provided by the Niles Police Department. An arrest does not indicate a conviction.

A Niles woman reported to police Tuesday that her ex-boyfriend, of Chicago, has been sending her harassing phone and text messages, to the point where she fears for her safety. Police said the messages indicated very aggressive and controlling behavior, and that the ex-boyfriend has threatened to harm the victim, her family and her friends.

The woman is pregnant with the ex-boyfriend's child, according to police. The woman planned to file an order of protection. Police filed a report, but the woman asked that the offender not be contacted at this time.

The branch manager of a bank in the 5600 block of Touhy Avenue, Niles, told police Tuesday Jan. 10 at about 4:20 p.m. that a 19-year-old Des Plaines woman was attempting fraudulently to cash a check for $600 from the account of a California woman, according to the police report.

The branch manager said the same Des Plaines woman had visited the bank the previous day and attempted to cash a check from the same account in the same amount, police said. That check cleared, but the account holder reported her checkbook stolen, police said. The bank closed her account, and that resulted in the Tuesday transaction not going through.

Police said the offender admitted taking two checks from her cousin in Los Angeles. The victim was called and informed, but did not want to sign complaints, according to the report. The bank manager said the bank would not pursue the matter as long as it was compensated the $600, police said, and the offender secured that amount from a family member. Police said they took from the offender three other checks belonging to another family and placed them into inventory, and filed a report.
