Repeat DUI Offender Charged With Felony DUI

His license was suspended for previous violation.

Kenneth Perera, 34, of Northwest Highway, Chicago, was charged with felony DUI alcohol/drugs after police spotted him driving 60 mph in a 35 mph zone of Milwaukee Avenue, Niles. He suddenly swerved to the left across the center lane, made an illegal left turn and other erratic traffic maneuvers.

Police found Perera somewhat confused and smelling of alcohol. He showed impairment on field sobriety tests. Perera said he didn't have a driver's license, and a computer check found his license had been suspended. He was charged with driving while license suspended for DUI. He was also charged with DUI, driving while license suspended, speeding, driving on the wrong side of the roadway, disobeying a traffic control device and operating an uninsured motor vehicle. His court date is March 24.

A fitness center in Civic Center Plaza, Niles, called police March 14 to report that a man there was yelling and using racial slurs. Members of the fitness center were alarmed.  The staff said the man had behaved similarly three days earlier. Police warned the man not to return to the facility. He was ticketed for disorderly conduct.
