Reward Offered for Hair Salon Bandit

Niles Crimestoppers is offering a reward of up to $1,000 for information leading to the arrest and charging of the suspect who has robbed numerous hair salons in Niles, Skokie, Morton Grove and other suburbs.

Niles Crime Stoppers is offering up to a $1,000 cash reward for information leading to the arrest and filing of criminal charges against the suspect wanted for a string of hair salon robberies in Niles, Skokie, Morton Grove and other northern and western suburbs in the past two to three weeks, according to a statement from Crime Stoppers.

Two robberies of hair salons in Niles occurred and are believed to have been committed by this suspect. The first occurred Dec. 28 at about 8:40 p.m. in a hair salon in a strip mall in the 5600 block of Touhy.

The second occurred Monday, Jan. 14 at about 11:40 a.m. in a hair salon in a strip mall in the 8300 block of Golf Road (in Four Flaggs Shopping Center).

The “Bad Hair Bandit,” as Crime Stoppers called him, is described as a white male, in his late 30’s to mid 40’s, between 5’4”-5’8” inches tall, weighing between 180-220 pounds, according to the organization. It also said he has been reported to be armed with a long-barrel handgun, possibly a revolver.  

If anyone sees the suspect, police say not to approach him as he may be armed and dangerous; instead, call 911 immediately.

Anyone having information can report their tip anonymously to the Crime Stoppers Tip line at 847-588-6533. The Crime Stoppers Event Number is  2013-0114. They can also text their tip to 847411 and enter the code nilespd to have the tip remain anonymous.

According to Niles Crimes Stoppers President Morgan Dubiel, “Violent criminals such as these need to be removed from our streets as soon as possible. By offering this reward the Niles Crimes Stoppers hope to get someone to come forward to do just that.”

He reiterated the slogan,“Remember, give tips, get cash!”
