Schizophrenic Man Punches Neighbor

A man who lives in the 9700 block of Greenwood, Niles, called police Monday Feb. 21 to report that his neighbor punched him in the mouth, causing a cut to his lip. The two have had an ongoing dispute. The victim, who refused medical attention, said he just wanted the offender to leave him alone. The offender is schizophrenic and experiences hallucinations. He was transported to Glen Oaks Hospital for an evaluation. 

Father scratches daughter's car 

A 23-year-old woman in the 9000 block of Cumberland reported that her father called her from outside her apartment Feb. 20 and asked for $20. When she refused, she saw him put two scratches in the paint on the driver's side of her Lexus ES 300. 

Girl bitten by dog

A mother and daughter were walking in a parking lot in the 8700 block of Dempster, Niles, on Feb. 18 when they saw a woman walking two white poodles on leashes. They asked if they could pet them and the woman appeared reluctant, asking, "Do you have dogs?" The mother and daughter said they did. The mother started to pet one dog but saw that it seemed afraid and drew her hand back. The dog jumped on her leg and she felt a pain there, but didn't know if she was bit or only scratched. About 20 minutes later, they checked the mother's leg and saw blood on it. Unable to find the dog's owner, they wrote down the license plate of her van and gave it to police. The mother said she would have her doctor check out the bite.
