Security Deposit Dispute, Wheel Caps Stolen

Also a cell phone stolen out of a package. The information is from the Niles Police Department. An arrest is not an indication of guilt.

Purse snatched

A male offender ran up behind a woman in a parking lot in the 5600 block of Touhy and grabbed her purse from the shopping cart on July 12 around 1 p.m. He then ran away. One witness called police while another chased the offender for a bit but was unable to catch him.

Someone stole four chrome wheel center caps from a Cadillac Escalade on July 12 between 11:45 a.m. and 1 p.m. in a parking lot on the 8000 block of Golf.

Victim a 43-year-old man from Chicago said that when he left a store at Golf Mill Center at 1 p.m. on July 12 he noticed that his wallet was missing.

Security deposit dispute

A landlord told Niles police that he went to inspect an apartment he owns after the residents, a 66-year-old woman and her son, moved out. He said the door locks on both front and back doors were damaged as well as the screen door locks on both. He said there were also holes in doors and in the drywall around the house. He contacted the woman to tell her that he would be withholding her security deposit, and he would need an additional $700 to repair the damage. The landlord told police the woman told him that if he didn't give her back the $300 he was already holding she and her son would, "take care of him." The man stated he would be willing to sign complaints for the damage as he believes it will cost over $1000 to repair. The incident is being investigated.

Domestic dispute

On July 12 a 32-year-old man came to the Niles Police Department to report a domestic dispute he was having with his wife. During an argument, the man said his wife threw her iPhone at him, striking him on his upper arm. The phone’s screen broke and the wife cut her finger on it, then said she was going to have her husband arrested for battery, according to the report. While the man was talking with police, he got a text from his wife stating that she had police at the house and she was making a report against him. The man said they are in the process of divorcing and wanted this report as a matter of record.

Theft

A Niles man told police he received a package July 12 that was supposed to contain his cellular phone. When he opened the box, the phone was missing and someone had stuffed paper inside the package.
