At 10:56 p.m., the Niles Police Department responded to the crash, in the 8200 block of Dempster.
Melquiades Rodriguez, 27, of the 8600 block of Milwaukee, Niles, was charged with one misdemeanor count of driving without a valid driver’s license and one felony count of driving while driver’s license revoked.
Rodriguez was driving a Ford F-150 pick-up westbound on Dempster and drove into an oncoming traffic lane, striking a taxi cab head on. The initial impact of those two vehicles caused four additional cars to become involved, police said.
Rodriguez suffers from a medical condition which may have played a role in the crash, according to police. Alcohol was not involved.
Niles Fire Department paramedics treated Rodriguez at the scene and he signed a medical release.

He was taken into custody and transported to NPD. At NPD the offender was booked, processed and held for a Bond hearing pending his court date.
Three people in the other involved vehicles were taken to area hospitals for treatment with non-life threatening injuries.
Dempster Street was closed from Cumberland to Prospect for the investigation and clean-up at the time of the accident 10:56 p.m. and re-opened at 12:50 a.m. Thursday.Rodriguez was also cited with improper lane usage and driving in the wrong lane. His court date is Nov. 5 at 1:30 p.m. in the Skokie branch of the Cook County courts.
