Skokie Carjackers Likely Knew Suspect, Police Say

It was probably not a random act, a Skokie Police Department spokesman said.

The suspects who stole a vehicle Wednesday from a motorist in a Skokie parking lot were likely not strangers to the victim, Skokie Police Officer Joseph Marzigliano said Thursday.

"It appears the victim and the suspects knew each other," he said.

The incident happened at about 2:20 p.m.Wednesday at a Skokie Swift parking lot at 9845 Gross Point Road. The suspects have not yet been apprehended, though police found the car on Chicago's north side later Wednesday.

The suspects pulled the victim out of the car, Marzigliano said, adding he did not believe the victim was injured. A handgun was displayed, but not fired, during the incident.

"We think it might be local," Marzigliano said. Police will release more information as soon as they reach a point at which it will not jeopardize the investigation, he indicated.

Police are not releasing a description of the suspects at this time.
