Street Squabble Leads To Shoving Cop, Woman's Injury, Kids Crying

A man allegedly punched woman on the street with her children present.

David Carmickle, 52, of Skokie was charged with domestic battery and resisting a peace officer after someone called police Sept. 30 at about 6:20 p.m. to report that a man in a red jacket punched a woman who was walking near Shermer Road and Niles Avenue, Niles.

Police found the man in the red jacket and spotted a woman with several children nearby. Police said he ignored several verbal orders to turn around and walk to the officer's squad car, and uttered several expletives directed at the police officer.

The officer escorted Carmickle to the squad car, and during this process, Carmickle allegedly began pulling and pushing the officer, as well as attempting to kick him. Another officer arrived to assist, and they sat Carmickle in the rear of the squad car. The woman and her children ran up and were screaming and crying.
