Suspicious Man Enters Foreclosed Home

Man said he was homeless and owners let him stay there.

A resident in the 6700 block of Forest View Lane, Niles, phoned police to say a suspicious man was seen entering the rear basement door of a neighboring residence which had been foreclosed upon. The neighbor said the past residents had been evicted earlier in the week.

The man who had entered the basement told police he was homeless and that the owners had given him permission to occupy a room in the basement. The man said he didn't know he wasn't supposed to be in the home, because the door was left unlocked as it usually was.

The man left without incident, and officers discovered the home was dirty and had bags of garbage, cat hair and feces inside. Police contacted a representative of the property manager, who said he was working with Niles Community Development to resolve ordinance violations.
