Three-Car Crash Results In Woman's Death

The accident happened Monday on Milwaukee Avenue.

After being pinned inside her car after two crash impacts in a major accident Monday, Bertille Schultz, 63, died Tuesday from complications of her injuries, according to Niles police.

The accident happened at about 2:35 p.m. Sept. 12 when a 27-year-old woman driving a Jeep SUV (Vehicle 1) attempted to turn from Oriole St., where she had been heading northbound, and make a left turn onto northwestbound Milwaukee Avenue.

As she did so, she was hit by Schultz (Vehicle 2), who was driving a 2002 Honda Accord northwestbound on Milwaukee Avenue in the center lane.

The impact was a glancing blow. Schultz's car then crossed into the oncoming traffic lane and collided with a Ford SUV being driven by a Niles woman (Vehicle 3) traveling southeastbound on Milwaukee Avenue. Vehicle 3 had two passengers, a 3-year-old and a 6-year-old. This was a more severe collision than the first.

Schultz was pinned inside her vehicle, and the Niles Fire Department extricated her and took her to Advocate Lutheran General Hospital. Other ambulances arrived to treat the other victims. The driver of Vehicle 1 refused medical attention at the scene. The children in Vehicle 3 were transported to Lutheran General for observation.
