Two Men Charged in Car Burglaries

The burglaries took place in Niles, Park Ridge, Glenview, Northbrook and Chicago. Police said it was an area-wide burglary operation.

Park Ridge Police have charged two men in a rash of car burglaries.

Nikolas Pena, 18, of Elmwood Park, and Michael T. Staples, 17 of Harwood Heights were charged with criminal trespass to motor vehicle and two counts of felony burglary to motor vehicle.

The men were charged after police answered a call of a vehicle burglary in progress on Nov. 16 in the 600 block of Courtland in Park Ridge. Police said the men are believed to be responsible for an area wide criminal car burglary operation.

After the arrest, investigators determined that the men might be responsible for more than 100 car burglaries in Park Ridge, Northbrook, Glenview, Niles and Chicago, police said.
