Wife Hit After Finding Text From Other Woman

The wife took the husband's phone and checked it; a witness saw him hit her. An arrest is merely an accusation, not evidence of a conviction.

Daniel Coleman, 27, of Zion was charged with domestic battery June 1 just after 8 p.m. Police said that he had been driving and his wife had been in the passenger seat when she repeatedly asked who texted him, and he replied it had been a male friend. She took his phone, checked it and saw the text was from a woman, according to the report.

As Coleman's car was stopped westbound on Oakton Street at Milwaukee Avenue, he began struggling with his wife to get the phone back, and in the process hit her on the left side of the face twice, police said. A witness in a car behind them said he hit his wife multiple times, according to the report. The witness began honking to get Coleman to stop.

Police issued a domestic violence report.

Police break car window to rescue dog from heat exposure

On May 27 at about 11:40 a.m., with an outside temperature of 87 degrees, someone called police to report that a small cocker spaniel was locked in a 2003 Ford pickup in a parking lot in the 8500 block of Golf Road. Police tried to locate the owner, and the dog was panting heavily, even though the windows were slightly open. A patrol supervisor gave permission for officers to gain entry to the vehicle. They did, and called the phone number listed on the dog tag. Thirty minutes later, the owner, a 30-year-old Morton Grove man, returned to the vehicle. Police issued him a ticket for animal cruelty-vehicle confinement.
