Woman Has Child Accomplices in Shoplifting

Store security observes merchandise being handed off and pushed out of the store in cart.

Rosa Lira-Duran, 33, of North Drake Avenue in Chicago, was charged with retail theft and contributing to the delinquency of a minor Saturday after an incident at a Golf Mill Shopping Center store around 7:30 p.m.

Loss prevention agents observed Lira-Duran selecting a pair of shoes in the store, while two girls, ages 11 and 14, selected clothing. They all got into an elevator but when they exited, the store merchandise was no longer visible. They returned a shoebox to the shoe department, but loss prevention agents discovered it empty.

Lira-Duran's husband handed her two shirts, and she placed them in a shopping cart under her purse. She turned the shopping cart over to the two girls, who walked out of the store with the unpaid merchandise.
