Woman Tries To Cash A Forged Check

She fled the scene in a car with no license plates.

A teller at a financial institution in the 8500 block of Touhy Avenue, Niles, told police that a woman had come through the bank’s drive-through on June 25 at about 12:20 p.m. and attempted to cash a $1,000 check from a 39-year-old Chicago woman. The teller knew the victim, and said the victim had been in the bank earlier in the day to cancel her account. The teller also recognized the victim’s name because she had been a victim of burglary to her auto the previous day.  The teller stalled for time while another employee phoned 911. However, the offender fled in a black car with no license plates before police could arrive, and they could not find her in the area. Police are following up.

Candle not fully extinguished, causes fire

Niles firefighters and police responded to a home in the 8500 block of Roseview, Niles, on June 26 at about 5:40 a.m.  The 37-year-old mother had gone out to buy breakfast for her kids, and a 15-year-old son said he had lit a candle in his room, blown it out, thought it was extinguished, tried to fall back to sleep and woke up to the sound of fire alarms going off.
