Woman With Designer Bag Charged With Theft, Battery

She struck a loss prevention officer.

Marilyn Faruki, 30, of Des Plaines was charged with retail theft and battery/bodily harm Feb. 10 after a loss prevention officer at a retail store at Golf Mill Shopping Center, Niles, said she selected $435 of merchandise from store displays, entered a fitting room, put the merchandise into her Ralph Lauren shopping bag and exited the fitting room. The loss prevention officer checked the fitting room and did not find the merchandise Faruki had taken in, so she approached Faruki near the north exit door of the store. The loss prevention officer said Faruki refused to comply with her requests and pulled the bag away from her and struck her on the right hand with her hand, causing a small cut to one finger.

Faruki dropped her shopping bag, with her wallet inside it, left the store and drove away in a Chrysler PT Cruiser. Police located her a few blocks away and the loss prevention officer identified her. Her court date will take place today at the Skokie branch of the Cook County courts.
