Women Charged With Felony Retail Theft

Monique Triplett, 39, of North East River Road, Chicago,was charged with felony retail theft and Monika Schneider, 24, of Des Plaines, was charged with retail theft, possession of cannabis under 2.5 grams and possession of drug paraphernalia after an incident Sept. 25 just before 3 p.m. at a Golf Mill Shopping Center store. Police arrived on the scene after being notified that three suspects were being watched for shoplifing. On arrival, they were told one suspect, a 19-year-old male, had left the store and was sitting in a white Lexus parked near the store doors. He told police he was waiting for his girlfriend to exchange shoes inside the store. Police said they noticed an odor of burnt cannabis coming from the car's interior, and the 19-year-old told them there was a one-hitter pipe in the car's door handle, but he didn't know if there was any cannabis in the vehicle. According to the report, police recovered a pipe with burnt residue that smelled like cannabis from the driver's side door handle. Additionally, they said, a new pipe was recovered from the glove box along with a plastic bag containing a green leafy substance that looked and smelled like cannabis. The 19-year-old male was later released from the scene without charges. The substance was later field tested and showed positive for cannabis, police said.

When Triplett and Schneider exited the store, a female police officer searched them, and Schneider said the cannabis and drug paraphernalia belonged to her, according to the report. Store security said Schneider removed earrings and sunglasses worth $78 from the store without paying, and Triplett removed a necklace worth $40 without paying, according to the report. Triplett was originally charged with retail theft, but due to a history, police contacted an assistant state's attorney, who approved the felony retail theft charge. Their court date is Nov. 2 in the Skokie branch of the Cook County courts.

Sister, brother argue over laptop

In a domestic dispute Sept. 25 at about 8:30 a.m. at a home in the 9000 block of Clifton, a 28-year-old Niles woman reported that she and her brother, 20, had had a verbal dispute over the sister's laptop. Police said the brother took it to use it for a college class. The sister said he could use the laptop, and she didn't want any more police involvement, according to the report; the brother agreed to leave the residence until later in the day. Police issued a domestic violence form.
