500 Niles Residents Still Without Power; 1,600 Have Been Restored

ComEd expects 99 percent to be back online by midnight Friday.

After a brief but feisty storm knocked out electric power to many Niles homes and businesses at about 8 a.m. Monday, 500 ComEd customers still remain without power, Niles Village Manager George Van Geem said Wednesday around 5 p.m.

However, ComEd told him they have brought power back to 1,600 customers. That would make for a total of 2,100 customers who lost power, higher than the original information ComEd gave Monday of 127 customers without power.

Van Geem was fielding many phone calls Wednesday from people finding it increasingly difficult to live without electricity.

"People are frustrated," he said. "But I can't predict when the power is going to go back on."

ComEd told him they would have 90 percent of customers online by midnight Thursday, and 99 percent by midnight Friday.
