Cut Niles' Expenses In Home Inspections

With fewer homes being sold, there's less need for condo and apartment inspections; Niles could cut the number of positions in that area.

Things have changed  and better late than never we must change with them.

Residential construction and teardowns are at substantially lower levels than a few years ago, and are not expected to increase any visible time soon in this country.

Earlier:

The Village of Niles Community Development Department no longer does annual inspections of apartments or condominiums and unless the first and fourth amendments of the U. S. Constitution are repealed it won't be in that business.

It appears to me that there is 4,000 to 5,000 fewer man hours needed per year to accomplish the mission of the Community Development Department.

Lets see now; 50 weeks times 40 hours per week, that's 2,000 hours times 2 makes 4,000 hours.

It seems to me that we can cut staff in this department by at least two and be just as productive as several years ago. Not to do so would be an irresponsible waste of taxpayers money.

The total personnel costs for this department are about $1.5 million per year. This needs to be done before the 2013 budget is passed, and if not why not?
