Document Destruction and Electronics Recycling Event for SWANCC Residents in Rolling Meadows

During fall 2011, the Solid Waste Agency of Northern Cook County (SWANCC) will be sponsoring community Document Destruction Events (DDE) and Electronics Recycling Events (ERE) to assist residents with responsible recycling options.  There is no cost to attend, but the scheduled events are for residents that live in SWANCC member communities and IDs will be checked for proof of residency.

The Village of Rolling Meadows will host a combined DDE and ERE event on Saturday, October 1, 2011, at the Rolling Meadows Public Works Facility, 3900 Berdnick Street, from 9 a.m. to noon. Residents simply drive to the location and workers will unload the paper documents and electronics.  All paper is shredded by Accurate Document Destruction, a division of Groot Industries, on site, and the electronics will be recycled by Supply-Chain Services.  For more information about these companies, please visit shredd.net or supply-chainservices.com.

Typical documents that can be shredded include medical records, bank statements, personal files, retired tax forms, etc.  Staples and paper clips are acceptable, but binders should be removed.  Residents will be limited to six banker-sized boxes of documents per event.

Since 1999, through SWANCC-sponsored events, over 4,000,000 (four million) pounds of electronics have been recycled and since 2005, approximately 658,000 pounds of paper has been shredded and recycled.  “SWANCC’s goal is to provide convenient and environmentally-sound programs to assist residents with recycling materials. Due to their efforts, old materials will be made into new products,” stated Mary Allen, SWANCC Recycling and Education Director.
