July Downpour Floods Basements and Streets in Niles

Hundreds of houses flood.

A severe storm that started late in the evening on July 22 and lasted through early morning July 23 left many residents with storm water in their basements.

The storm was the third to tear through the area within the last month that either left residents without power, with water in their basements or with downed trees and branches outside.

Dragging soaked carpet up stairs was back-breaking work for many. At the same time, the Village of Niles is nearing the completion of a stormwater study that will lead to future sewer system improvements.
