Licenses for Scrap-Metal Scavengers, Snow Plows Considered

Morton Grove Finance Committee members are debating whether to require scrap-metal scavengers, snow plows and landscape companies to register with the community.

Morton Grove may require all of the scrap-metal scavengers, snow plows and landscape companies that come through town to get a business license, the Morton Grove Champion reports. The issue came up at a finance committee meeting last month, and will be debated again later this month.
Some committee members thought the licenses would bring in more revenue for the community, as well as make the community safer by tracking them. It would be nice to snow who the snowplow company is if they damage a car, or the landscape company is if something goes missing, they said. However, Village Trustee Shel Marcus, who serves on the committee, asked, "How much government do you want?", saying this is a "big brother" debate, and that it might not be necessary to track everyone who comes through town. The committee will discuss the issue again August 28.
