Military Vets Can Get Free Tax Service

For those that have served in the armed forces and are looking for help with their taxes this 2013.

As tax season approaches, Sate Representative Laura Fine (D-Glenview) wants to alert members of the military and their families about a free tax preparation service available to them through the Illinois CPA Society.

“Tax season can be stressful, even when a loved one isn’t serving in the military overseas or just returning,” Fine said in a press release. “This free program offered through the Illinois CPA Society will help the brave men and women who are serving our country. The CPA Society will help them receive all of the tax credits that were designed to provide them with special assistance.”

Volunteers from the Illinois CPA Society meet one-on-one with military members and their families to help them take full advantage of tax benefits. To qualify for this service, military personnel must be an Illinois resident and have served in a combat zone or qualified hazardous duty area within the last tax year or be currently serving in a contingency operation. The Illinois CPA Society has helped over 300 servicemen and women since this program began.
